Community card poker is one of the most played poker variations. It is generally played in casinos and in poker tournaments.

Community card poker variations are played with community cards – cards that are dealt facing up on the table and shared by all the players.

The “hole cards” are the incomplete hand that each player receives and that he will combine with the community cards to form a complete hand.

The community cards are called “board”. The board can be dealt in a straight line or arrange in patterns. Different rules of different community card variations determine how the board will be combined with the hole cards.

If community card poker is played in casinos it uses blinds and if it is played at home antes are used. In casinos fixed limit games are most common. In home games spread limits are more popular.

Usually, later betting rounds have higher limits than earlier betting rounds.

Betting rounds in casino community card games begin with the player to the left of the big blind. In home games, betting rounds begin with the layer to the left of the dealer. Community games are positional.

Let's take a look at the combinations that can be made in several community card poker games:

  • Texas hold'em is played with two hole cards and five board cards dealt in a straight line that all the players share. The players can combine the two card they hold with the cards on the table to form the best combination. They can use the hold cards they have or they can just use the board cards if they are in the best possible combination.
  • Omaha hold'em restricts players form using any cars. They have to use exactly three of the 5 community cards and combine them with exactly 2 of the 4 hold cards they were dealt. Tic-tac-toe the 9 community cards are dealt in a 3x3 square. Players must use 3 cards from a row, column or diagonal of the square.
